It's an exemplary recording, clear and detailed. Unfortunately, it's marred by a total lack of audience noise, which makes it feel somewhat cold and sterile. Mainstream has gone to some lengths to counteract the sterile feel (although there's not much anyone can do about the lack of audience noise) through their own remastering - the best way I can describe it is that there's more 'space' in the recording, as well as more definition. It's not a huge difference, but it's noticeable when you compare. Some people will dismiss this as tampering, but when the end result is a much more pleasant and natural listening experience than on the original circulating tape, it's a difference I'm sure many will find preferable. It's one of the best performances from this early 2002 tour as well. Artwork is nice with a particularly striking cover photo. The title is a nod to the earlier release All Ages Catch Bob which featured an audience recording of the same show, and taken from the title of the Atlanta Journal concert review. Note from Craig: Conversely, for fans of studio material... this recording could easily pass as a "live in the studio" recording. Those traders will find it nothing short of remarkable. © 2003 M McGarr / CD Pinkerton bobsboots.com |
