This release offers well chosen material from the 1999 European tour, serving up a 16 track greatest hits. Dylan's voice is extremely smooth while remaining full and powerful. Lyrically speaking, Visions of Johanna (a song that Dylan hardly ever remembers correctly), is simply flawless. He doesn't drop a note or a single lyric, and presents one of the most solid pieces of end-of the-century evidence that He can indeed still sing. Deep Six has done a wonderful job in securing strong renditions of nearly every song. What's particularly nice is that the quality doesn't waver, and the volume levels remain consistent throughout. The songs are spliced together with a bit of dead air... but for the most part, there are really only a few missteps here (and they all revolve around the same track). Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie is erroneously dated as the 24th, and is misspelled as Zargosa. The placement of this track is also odd, considering the abbreviated intro and the fact that Dylan usually opens with this cover. It should have been used as the first track, allowing for the full concert effect. Nothing too tragic however. The aesthetics are eye-catching, and this is one of the better pun titles © 2001 CD Pinkerton bobsboots.com and- © 2005 K Schweiger bobsboots.com |
