One show from the Jones Beach Amphitheater, and this audience recording from Mcnichols Arena in Denver. The audience noise is kept to a minimum, and is in excellent proportion to the vocals. Speaking of which, Dylan's voice is remarkably clear and in terrific form. The phrasing for Stuck Inside Of Mobile turns it into a phenomenal version, and renders it a definite highlight. As has been the pattern with this co-headliner, Simon joins Dylan for three tunes at the end of Dylan's set. The Sound of Silence assumes an even more poetic edge with Dylan whispering along and then breaking in with a great harp solo. Dylan takes the reigns again for a terrific Knockin’ On Heaven's Door, closing out his portion of the show. Zeus, on both occasions, has included the full concert... making for a 3 CD set. As far as the packaging, the glossy gatefold case is visually appealing and informative, albeit completely inadequate. The package is made to accommodate two cds... not three. For the Jones Beach show (released in 2000) this label did, however, provide the appropriate jewel casing. Another let down is the generic slip cases. Devoid of logo or any signature marking, these can be picked up anywhere. It's a shame when a label doesn't take a release to the finish line. To sum it up, The Dylan performance comes highly recommended, whether or not it's worth it to obtain the full show is obviously a matter of personal preference. © 2005 Keith Schweiger / CD Pinkerton / bobsboots.com |
