Review:
I first received these recordings grouped together in the early 1980s on the new technology "maxell XLIIS". It was labeled "2nd GEN. DO NOT COPY". I recently pulled out the old tape to give it a listen, and it is quite a bit crisper and cleaner than the recordings here. Without that reference, however, these are very nice quality recordings. These songs represent one of the most important documents of the evolving young artist, and they belong in every collection. It is nice to finally see them collected in one place. There are a few gems here, but the majority of these tracks won't find a permanent place on your play list for a variety of reasons. Nonetheless, this is one enjoyable listen. The package is at the same time simplistic and elegant, hearkening back to the "The Times They Are A-Changin'" LP cover with the classic Daniel Kramer photo. There is another release, Bullet Of Light, that is only slightly cleaner than this release, but the better choice would be the Capricorn release The Witmark Years © 2001 CD Pinkerton / bobsboots.com
