It's not a must have title, but it is a solid show. Bob's voice is strong tonight, and the vocals are powerful. TMR once again tries to be artistic by superimposing a pixelated white image of Bob over the front cover photo. It completely obliterates the subjects in the photo, rendering it useless. Also, they are still on the gaudy kick with the bizarre looking multi-colored fonts. As they use a larger photo of Bob than usual on the back cover, the track titles are easier to read... but they needlessly print them over Bob's face. Let's face it guys, your artwork / graphics person needs to be replaced. The full color offset printed discs, at least, do look fairly nice. Dylan was on an extensive European tour in April of 2007 hitting no fewer than 25 different cities on the spring tour. A unique point to mention about this set is that it is part of a Modern Times trilogy that documented the event. This series of three double discs that highlight the tour were sold separately, but if a multiple purchase was made, the retailer was able to include a free single disc entitled Euro Modern Times. As for the performances, a rare and sweet version of My Back Pages pops up, and Bob performs half of the songs from Modern Times. Of course, Nettie Moore is beautiful. Another highlight of the set is the bonus tracks. A powerful Desolation Row is surly the highlight of the Italian show, and Bob rocks the guitar on Tom Thumb. The bonus tracks are nice quality as well, so, all in all, an enjoyable set. © 2008 CD Pinkerton - bobsboots.com |
