What a year! So many great shows, so many great boots... and I think this one tops them all. It is a commercially released cd-r from the label CIB Archives. This is a compilation of sorts from four venues in May. Even if you're not a fan of compilations... this one will change your mind. The editing is so good that you hardly realize that there is four different venues represented. Except for the fact that Bob thanks the audience four times, one would fail to look for the splices. The first disc is the entire show from the Pauley Pavilion on the 21st of May. Disc two starts with three songs from the Pond show of May 23 then back to the Pauley Pavilion for five songs from the 22nd. The final five songs were performed in Vancouver BC Canada on the 14th of May. (Cond.) © 2006 Chris Quigley - CD Pinkerton - bobsboots.com |
Review (Cont.): The dates are out of order, and the songs within each show are out of order. However, it is masterfully spliced together to create an 'entire show'. Start to finish... it's just one unbelievable performance after another. Included is perhaps the most rocking versions of Cold Irons Bound and Silvio that you may ever hear alongside beautifully warm versions of Just Like A Woman, Make You Feel My Love, and Mr Tambourine Man. Highway 61 Revisited is played as if Dylan's and his Band's life depended on it. Bob dedicates Restless Farewell to Frank Sinatra and played it to perfection. The two cover songs Rank Strangers by Albert E Brumley, and I'm Not Supposed To Care written by Gordon Lightfoot, deserve a nod as well. All of these songs are fantastic, but the piece de resistance is an electric version of If You See Her Say Hello it's like sex for the ears! The package itself is simple, yet nice enough, with some cool pics and a cartoon tray liner. Inside you will find all of the relevant information. The front cover could of had a picture of Dylan, but don't let that steer you away from this incredible piece. Highly recommended. © 2006 Chris Quigley - CD Pinkerton - bobsboots.com |
