Europe Modern Times source: Spring 2007 European tour Tracks: Disc one Thunder On The Mountain (1) Spirit On The Water (2) Rollin’ And Tumblin’ (3) When The Deal Goes Down (4) Workingman’s Blues #2 (5) Nettie Moore (6) The Levee’s Gonna Break (7) Ain’t Talkin’ (8) Encore interval (9) Thunder On The Mountain (10) Nettie Moore (11) Ain’t Talkin’ (12) Review: This is one of the more interesting titles in the journals of bootlegs primarily because the manufacturer distributed it for free. The idea was: Tambourine Man issued three different Modern Times double disc sets. To reward customers who purchased those releases, the retailer could include this title for free. Well, maybe in an alternate universe. The very nature of the retailers that put themselves at risk to carry these titles in the first place is to try to make a profit where they can. More were sold than were given away. Nonetheless, this is a nice title that presents Modern Times highlights of the European tour that weren't included on the trilogy, along with a couple that were. There wasn't a complete package produced due to the nature of the release. It came only with the offset printed disc and a two sided jewel case insert. The CD contains the same image as the insert obverse, but each has unique information printed on it. The reverse side of the insert is a simple black and white printed information page that lists all venue cities and dates along with band personnel included on the disc. The main Dylan photo of this package is the same one that was used for the Zürich release. It is both striking and mesmerizing. The idea behind the release is to create a live version of Modern Times using the best performances of the tour. The songs are presented in the same order as the official release, and the disc is missing only the two songs not performed on tour: Someday Baby and Beyond the Horizon. The biggest coup of this release is that it was compiled, printed, pressed, and was on the streets 60 days after the shows. The sound quality varies, but most tracks are quite nice. © 2008 CD Pinkerton bobsboots.com |
