More From The Vaults source: Various (see below) Tracks: Blowin' In The Wind (1) Only A Pawn In Their Game (1) Mr Tambourine Man (2) Eternal Circle (2) Outlaw Blues (3) I Shall Be Released (4) Hurricane (5) It Ain't Me Babe (6) Rita Mae (7) Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar (8) Sidewalks, Fences & Walls (9) Love Sick (10) High Water (11) Review: This is a fantastic release as far as sound quality goes. Two titles are studio outtakes, the rest are soundboard line recordings from live shows. As for the quality of the individual songs, All 60's material rates 10 stars. 70's songs rate 9 to 9½ stars. As for the remainder, 7½ - 8 for Groom, 8½ for High Water, 9½ for Love Sick and 9 stars for Sidewalks. The package aesthetics are fairly nice with clean fonts. All that said, the need for a compilation such as this is questionable. Even though all songs are presented in fantastic sonic quality, they have little to no other relation to one another. At least half of them have also been available for download on various sites around the Internet. (3) & (11) were available from iTunes. (4), (5), & (6) were available at Wolfgang's Vault, (9) came from Expecting Rain, and (10) was available at the official Dylan site bobdylan.com. If you have none of these songs on other discs or formats, then by all means, grab this title. All songs are worthy of even the smallest collection, but it will remain strictly in the hands of the collector as to whether to add this compilation to a collection that includes the songs on other titles (such as the Genuine Bootleg Series). © 2008 CD Pinkerton - bobsboots.com |

In February 2007, a reel to reel tape was placed for sell on eBay
for 12,500 US dollars. The tape was either a copy of, or... more
likely; the original half track Bob Dylan master that contained four
takes of the 1979 Solomon Burke song "Sidewalks, Fences, and Walls".
The song was recorded by Dylan for possible inclusion on "Down in the
Groove". All takes of the song are finished versions mixed down from
the 2'' multi-track, and are of officially releasable
quality. Producer David Briggs (who was producer for and personal
friend of Neil Young throughout his career) supervised the 1987
recording sessions. After the sessions were complete, CBS retained
possession of the 2" master... but David Briggs gave this particular
mix down master to a friend of his. The friend held on to it for twenty
years, and then decided to put it up for sale to
finance a business. All four takes now circulate in collector circles,
because when the master reel remained unsold, the owner
began selling cassette copies for $50 USD each on eBay. An individual
who bought a copy began the circulation of the
four takes on the Dylan Pool and on Expecting Rain in mp3 format.
