This time, after a nearly 40 year absence, Dylan wears a wig and fake beard courtesy of the video he was shooting at the time. Bizarre, but not anywhere near as dramatic as when he plugged in that fender guitar way back when. There's been numerous recordings of Newport 2002 going around... some better than others... and some marred by the wind at this outdoor venue. You can forget all of them! This is the one to get! It cannot be bettered. The sound quality is astounding, perhaps the best ever for a Crystal Cat disc. One person who was present at the show describes the sound on this release as being better than he remembered it at the time! Amazing! The setlist is nothing exciting, but the performance is great! Even the old regulars such as The Wicked Messenger are really rocking. The acoustic songs in particular, are lovely. The set is rounded out with bonus tracks in equally impressive quality... again better than what you'll find elsewhere. This is a wonderful release! Well done Crystal Cat! |
