It was released in 1988 by Italy's Document Records on both CD and LP. In the boot world, that fact alone sets it among only a handful of releases. There are several problematic qualities, however. To start with, the title is misleading. Kooper & Bloomfield do not appear on the recordings, and there are only two live recordings with The Band (3). However, they weren't know as 'The Band' at this time; so even that is inaccurate. The package aesthetics are weak, but there is a fairly nice black and white cover photo. The vinyl is black with custom full printed labels. The first 8 tracks are studio outtakes with the musicians that were formerly known as the Hawks, and would later be called 'The Band'. Very good quality. The sound quality is not near as good on the ABC songs. Finaly, this LP was actually recorded directly from a great sounding 1985 LP entitled 'He's Your Lover Now'. The CD contained 4 extra, though terrible quality tracks taken from the 1964 Philadelphia show, and recorded from side four of the 1985 German album 'All Hallow's Eve & More'. © 2001 Craig Pinkerton Bobsboots.com |
